250 PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN ABIA STATE TO RECEIVE N200,000 GRANT TO SUPPORT THEIR SMALL BUSINESSES                                                                                                              24-05-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                      Two hundred and fifty persons with disabilities in Abia state are to receive two hundred thousand naira grant to support their small businesses to ameliorate the economic crunch in the country.

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, announced this in a message at the International Conference Center Umuahia while launching the Renewed Hope Initiative, RHI, food outreach in Abia State with the distribution of food items to downtrodden.

Senator Oluremi Tinubu who was represented by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima announced that the planned distribution of 10,000 packs of sanitary pads per state to encourage young girls to stay in school.

According to Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the food outreach scheme, which began last year in the Federal Capital Territory, has reached to 11 States and the FCT, including Benue, Cross River amongst others and urged the beneficiaries of food items in Abia state not to sell them
Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, lauded the First Lady of Nigeria for her compassion and unwavering support for vulnerable Nigerians amid the current economic challenges facing the country.

The Governor highlighted his administration’s commitment to social welfare, noting that one of his first actions in office was the creation of the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection as well as collaborations with international and local partners to implement holistic programs that support women, youths, and vulnerable groups across the state.

Earlier, the wife of Abia State, Mrs Priscilla Otti, expressed appreciation to the Renewed Hope Initiative and the First Lady for their enduring commitment to lifting families out of poverty and hunger in the country.

Mrs Otti announced that the State Government has provided 3,000 bags of 10kg rice to support the programme and assured that the items would be distributed to downtrodden across the State.

The event featured which attracted the presence of the First ladies of Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, Ogun States among other notable dignitaries and the handover of food items worth millions of naira.
