BCDA TO PARTNER WITH FMOHASW TO CREATE A RELIABLE GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM-DATA BASE AND HEALTH SURVEILLANCE CHECK POINTS                                                            30-05-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                     The Border Communities Development Agency, BCDA, is to partner with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to create a reliable Geographic Information System-data base and health surveillance check points to forestall the outbreaks of communicable diseases in over 1600 Boarder entry points in Nigeria.

This was made known at meeting between the two organisations in Abuja.

The Executive Secretary Border Communities Development Agency, Dr. George Kelly emphasized that the collaboration would significantly enhance service delivery to underserved areas, which faced inadequate healthcare, security threats, and smuggling activities.

He reiterated the Agency’s focus on project tailored towards the provision of water, healthcare, education, and security, using sustainable green energy solutions

The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammed Ali Pate, stressed the importance of healthy Border Communities for national development and expressed BCDA critical role in advancing ongoing regional efforts, such as the Chad Basin Ministers’ collaboration, to prevent the cross-border spread of infectious diseases.

At the end of the meeting, joint working groups were created to coordinate collaboration in critical areas, including port health services, disease surveillance, capacity building, water supply and basic hygiene.
