NSCDC ARRESTS 12 SUSPECTED VANDALS ACROSS FCT DURING SALLAH HOLIDAY                                                                                                                     10-06-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                        The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has arrested 12 suspected vandals across various parts of Abuja during the recent Sallah holiday.

The arrests were carried out by the Tactical Squad of the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) unit of the Command, which was on routine patrol to safeguard lives and public infrastructure during the festivities.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC FCT Command Monica Ojobi says four of the suspects were arrested at the DBLO Construction Company site in Jahi, with six pieces of galvanized iron rods.

In Karu Site, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), one suspect was arrested while vandalizing telecommunication mast components.

At the Utako axis, opposite the VIO office, four individuals were caught digging up armoured cables.

Other suspects were apprehended near the National Hospital bridge along Berger/Area 1 road for vandalizing a billboards.

Speaking on the development, the FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, expressed concern over the recurring acts of vandalism, particularly during festive periods.

“Criminals often exploit festive seasons to perpetrate their nefarious activities. However, our tactical surveillance during such times is designed to counter their moves. We are committed to stopping the menace of vandalism in the FCT,” he stated.

Dr. Odumosu lamented that despite the Federal Government and the FCT Administration, under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike, investing in critical infrastructure to improve citizens’ welfare, some individuals continue to sabotage these efforts for personal gain.

“The NSCDC will not relent in its responsibility to protect critical national assets such as manhole covers, telecommunication masts, water pipelines, and other public infrastructure essential to residents’ well-being,” he added.

He warned individuals involved in vandalism and theft to desist or be ready to face the full wrath of the law. He also urged FCT residents to support the Corps by providing timely and actionable intelligence that could help curb these crimes.

Items recovered from the vandals include three diggers, three shovels, and one axe, armoured cables telecommunication mast components, pieces of galvanized iron rods and parts of vandalized billboards.
