PRESIDENT TINUBU REITERATES NIGERIA’S COMMITMENT TO ENSURING THE PROTECTION AND SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT OF OCEAN RESOURCES                                                             12-06-25

By Sadiq Aminu                                                         President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to ensuring the protection and sustainable management of ocean resources and to continue to play a pivotal role in driving inclusive science – based and economically viable ocean solutions.

The President stated this in his message to the United Nations Oceans Conference held in Monaco.
He stated that as the nation’s Marine and Blue Economy sector continues to play its critical role in economic diversification and environmental protection, the nation’s commitment to engaging actively with the international Partners to foster innovation, investments and sustainable practices in its coastal and marine sector is highlighted.

President Tinubu was represented at the Forum by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Chief Adegboyega Oyetola.
Nigeria’s participation in the world forum, underscored the country’s growing commitment to ocean governance, maritime sustainability and climate adaptation through the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

It has further positioned her as a key Stakeholder in shaping ocean governance policies ahead of the UN Ocean Conference in France, where key agreements and commitments to expand marine protected areas are expected to be discussed.

According to a Statement, issued by the Special Assistant to the Minister on Media and Communication, Mr Bolaji Akinola, the special event, held ahead of the UN Ocean Conference to be held at Nice, France, was hosted by Prince Albert, the second, of Monaco and it drew significant international attention with the presence of key figures like, the Prince of Wales, Prince William, the French President, Mr Emmanuel Macron and his Brazilian counterpart, President Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva.

The theme of the Conference centered around a regenerative blue economy and sustainable ocean finance and the gathering emphasized the urgent need for coordinated global action to protect the marine ecosystem and promote sustainable use of the ocean resources.
World Leaders present, discussed how to accelerate the transition to a resilient ocean economy, scaling up funding and aligning marine science with policies to safeguard the planet’s largest ecosystem (the Oceans).
