The National Association of Nupe Students (NANUS), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria Chapter, recently paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli (CFR), with the objective of promoting cultural understanding and strengthening ties between the Nupe and Hausa communities.

The delegation, led by the chapter’s Magaji, Mallam Abdullahi Alhaji Sommaji, and the association’s president, His Royal Majesty Abdulmumin Abdulkadir Atiku, was warmly received at the Zazzau Palace in Zaria.

During the visit, the students and the Emir engaged in discussions centered on fostering unity, cultural promotion, and academic focus among students. Key points of discussion included promoting the rich heritage of both ethnic groups, strengthening relationships between Nupe and Hausa communities, encouraging academic excellence, and uniting Nupe students from Niger, Kogi, and Kwara states studying at ABU Zaria.

The Emir commended the students for their initiative and highlighted the historical bonds and cooperation between Nupe groups residing in Zaria and Kaduna. He also acknowledged prominent Nupe personalities who have contributed to peaceful coexistence in the region.

“The unity you display is commendable. I urge you to continue on this path and remain committed to your academic goals,” the Emir said.

Following the meeting, the Emir directed the Waziri of Zazzau to take the delegation on a tour of the palace, including its museum and documentary gallery. The tour offered the students deeper insight into the history and cultural practices of the Zazzau Emirate.

The Emir concluded by assuring the students of his continued support and granted them open access to his palace for future engagements.

The visit was seen as a significant step toward enhancing cultural exchange and understanding between the Nupe student community and the Zaria Emirate.
