PDP CRISIS: Tension, Police Intervention, and Conflicting NEC Notices

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Tension gripped the PDP as two factions one led by acting chairman Amb. Umar Damagun and another by Deputy Chair (South) Amb. Taofeek Arapaja clashed over parallel meetings.

Police halted a scheduled BoT meeting at the PDP HQ, only allowing members into the premises but not the main hall. Chief Bode George condemned the action before the group moved to Yar’Adua Centre.

The BoT appears split: Chairman Sen. Wabara backs holding the 100th NEC, while Secretary Sen. Maikarfi prefers an expanded national caucus.

Adding to the confusion, conflicting notices were issued. Amb. Arapaja insists the NEC must hold, while a “special expanded caucus” notice — signed by embattled Secretary Sen. Anyanwu — circulated online.

As of this report, party members were seen entering Wadata House for the contentious meeting.
