FMOE CALL ON UNIONS, AREA COUNCILS, AND EDUCATION ADMINISTRATORS IN THE FCT TO PRIORITIZE DIALOGUE, TRANSPARENCY                                                                                                        02-07-25

By Sadiq Aminu.                                                     The Federal Ministry of Education has called on the Unions, Area Councils, and Education Administrators in the Federal Capital Territory to prioritize dialogue, transparency, and shared responsibility to resolve the strike by Primary School Teachers.

In a statement, the Minister of Education, Dr. Olatunji Alausa acknowledges the concerns raised by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), FCT Wing, following its Emergency meeting regarding the implementation of the New National Minimum Wage for primary school teachers in the FCT.

It says while the administration of LEA Primary Schools in the FCT falls under the purview of the six Area Councils and their respective Local Education Authorities, the Federal Ministry of Education reaffirms its commitment to the welfare, dignity, and professional development of teachers at all levels.

It assures that the Minister of the FCT, Minister of Education, Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission and other key agencies will continue to engage on the matter as well as encourage the Area Council Chairmen to do the same, to settle the issue amicably.

In line with the principles of cooperative governance and shared responsibility, Dr. Alausa promises that the Ministry will sustain its mediation efforts among stakeholders to foster constructive dialogue and prevent any disruption to children’s education arising from unresolved administrative challenges.
