Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has emerged the overall winner of the 2023/2024 Tertiary Institution Performance Merit Award, organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The university scored 14 points and received a cash prize of ₦500 million.

The University of Ilorin came second with nine points and was awarded ₦75 million, while Nile University of Nigeria, a private institution in Abuja, placed third with six points and received ₦25 million.

The awards were presented at JAMB’s 5th edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance Merit Award (NATAP-M), held in Abuja.

According to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, institutions were assessed based on five criteria: the number of candidates seeking admission into the school, geographic diversity of admitted students, number of foreign admissions, gender balance improvement, and compliance with the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) guidelines.

In the polytechnic category, Kaduna Polytechnic emerged best with 10 points and won ₦50 million. The Federal College of Education, Zaria, topped the College of Education category with 18 points, also receiving ₦50 million.

PEFTI Film Institute, Lagos, won in the Innovation Enterprise Institution (IEI) category with four points and was awarded ₦10 million.

The NATAP-M awards are held annually to recognize tertiary institutions that adhere to JAMB’s guidelines and promote excellence in admissions processes.
