NiMET DG PUSHES CLIMATE-SMART PPP FOR FARMERS AT IFAD WORKSHOP

The Director-General of NiMet, Prof. Charles Anosike, has called for stronger climate-smart Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to boost agribusiness resilience in Nigeria. Speaking at the IFAD Best Practice Workshop in Abuja, he stressed the need to embed climate data, adaptation, and mitigation into agricultural projects to secure long-term stability.
Prof. Anosike highlighted NiMet’s achievements, including the launch of the ENACTS Maproom, which provides real-time forecasts, historical climate data, and tailored advisories to help farmers make better planting and harvesting decisions.
He reaffirmed NiMet’s commitment to working with the private sector to expand Digital Climate Advisory Services (DCAS) for smallholder farmers, ensuring timely and accurate climate information that safeguards livelihoods and improves productivity.
IFAD’s Country Director, Mrs. Dede Ekoue, praised NiMet’s leadership in climate services, noting its vital role in bridging science, policy, and practice to protect millions of farmers.
