NLC REJECTS DELTA CIVIL SERVANTS DRESS CODE, DEMANDS REVIEW

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Delta State Council, has rejected the new dress code directive for civil servants, insisting that existing Public Service Rules should remain the standard for decent dressing.

At an emergency meeting led by State Chairman, Comrade Goodluck Ofobruku, the union called for clarity and fairness in dress regulations, urging government to consult labour before making policies that affect workers. It also demanded wardrobe allowances for all workers to ensure proper dressing, just as is provided for some cadres.

On pensions, the NLC commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for releasing ₦10 billion to pay retirees but urged the state to clear all outstanding arrears.

The congress also recognized the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN) and condemned the harassment of its members, warning that continued intimidation could trigger conflict between labour and government.

The NLC pledged to defend workers’ rights while promoting dialogue, fairness, and industrial harmony in Delta State.
