By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has commended the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) for its strong educational standards and role in expanding access to learning across the country.

Speaking in Abuja during a courtesy visit by NOUN’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Olufemi Peters, the Minister praised the university for its excellence in open and distance learning and its commitment to hosting the International Media and Information Literacy Institute (IMILI), which will be certified by UNESCO in November 2025.

He said the initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which promotes integrity, accountability, and public enlightenment.

Professor Peters thanked the Federal Ministry of Information for its support and the ₦250 million grant for IMILI’s development, pledging NOUN’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s leadership in global media education.
