By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Bayero University Kano (BUK) and the Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA) have strengthened their partnership to combat violence against women and girls in Northern Nigeria.

Speaking at a dialogue themed “Affirming the Contribution of Culture and Faith Institutions to the Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in Northern Nigeria,” BUK Vice-Chancellor, Professor Haruna Musa, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to women’s empowerment and protection.

He highlighted the achievements of BUK’s Centre for Gender Studies, which marks its 10th anniversary this year, noting that the university remains open to collaborations promoting gender equality.

WRAPA Secretary-General, Hajiya Saudat Shehu Mahdi, emphasized the importance of cultural and faith leaders in safeguarding women’s rights and ensuring accountability.

The dialogue, attended by traditional and religious leaders, featured panel discussions, exhibitions, and an action roadmap aimed at uniting efforts against gender-based violence.
