Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Belém, Brazil, to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30).
Hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the summit unites global leaders, agencies, and businesses under the theme “Climate Action and Implementation.” Discussions center on adaptation, biodiversity, forests, and climate justice.
Shettima will deliver Nigeria’s statement at the Leaders’ Plenary, join the launch of the Tropical Forest Forever Fund, attend a high-level roundtable on Climate and Nature, and an Amazonian reception hosted by President Lula.
COP30 marks ten years since the Paris Agreement and aims to strengthen global efforts to cap temperature rise at 1.5°C while pushing for $1.3 trillion in annual climate finance for developing countries by 2035.
