The Federal Government has designated Edo State as the red meat hub for the South-South region under its plan to modernize Nigeria’s livestock industry.
Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, said the move aims to phase out manual slaughtering and open animal trading to promote hygiene and job creation.
He noted that the Igarra and Ubiaja grazing reserves will be revived in partnership with Edo State and private investors to establish modern livestock centers and ensure disease-free meat production.
Edo Commissioner for Livestock Development, Professor Ikponwosa Omorodion, said the state’s strategic location makes it ideal for driving livestock growth across the South-South.
