TINUBU CALLS FOR GLOBAL ACTION ON AFRICA’S ROAD CRASH CRISIS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

President Bola Tinubu has urged African leaders to build stronger international partnerships to tackle the rising rate of road accidents across the continent. Speaking through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, at the International Road Crash Victims Africa Conference, he emphasized the need for practical solutions to stop the loss of young, productive lives.

He noted that his administration is investing heavily in road infrastructure to boost economic activity and ensure safer travel, adding that Nigeria will continue to support global efforts aimed at reducing road crashes.

Senator Adams Oshiomhole stressed that strict enforcement of traffic laws and greater FRSC presence on highways are key to restoring order. He criticized influential Nigerians who disregard traffic rules and urged the FRSC to prosecute offenders regardless of their status.

Founder of Kwapada Road Safety Demand, Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, highlighted the importance of supporting accident victims and announced plans for an International Trauma Centre in Abuja.

FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said the conference’s outcome would strengthen Africa’s approach to reducing road accidents.
