NIGERIA, US DEEPEN SECURITY TIES

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Nigeria’s delegation, led by National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, met top US officials in Washington to strengthen security cooperation and clear misconceptions about the situation in Nigeria. The team emphasized that violence affects all communities and rejected claims of genocide.

The US government expressed readiness to boost collaboration through improved intelligence sharing, faster defence equipment processing, and possible access to excess military assets. Humanitarian support and help with early-warning systems were also pledged.

Both sides agreed to set up a Joint Working Group to drive a new cooperation framework, while Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians and ensuring stability, especially in the Middle Belt.

Key government officials joined the delegation, reinforcing a united front in advancing national security.
