NIGERIAN NAVY LAUNCHES EXERCISE OMI AILEWU TO SECURE WESTERN MARITIME CORRIDOR

The Nigerian Navy has launched Exercise OMI AILEWU aboard Ship KADA to strengthen maritime security along Nigeria’s Western waters. Rear Admiral Abdullahi Mustapha, Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, said the exercise targets threats such as oil theft, illegal fishing, arms smuggling, and attacks on critical infrastructure, emphasizing the maritime sector’s vital role in the economy and the Blue Economy.
He highlighted that rigorous training ensures personnel readiness and aligns with Navy directives to maintain safe waters for commerce. Captain Levi Deyin, Officer in Tactical Command, described the exercise as a strategic operation focused on intelligence-driven and technology-enhanced naval presence to deter criminal activity.
The exercise involves naval ships, helicopters, tactical drones, and Special Boat Service units, testing fleet maneuvers, communication, interdiction drills, and coordination at sea, ensuring the Navy is prepared to secure Nigeria’s maritime domain.
