PETROLEUM MINISTRY LAUNCHES ECM, GOES FULLY DIGITAL

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Ministry of Petroleum Resources has launched its Enterprise Content Management (ECM) System, marking a major transition from paper-based operations to a fully digital workflow.

The “Go Live” event in Abuja underscored the Ministry’s drive to improve efficiency, transparency and service delivery across Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, described the initiative as a timely and strategic reform for a Ministry central to the nation’s economy and energy security.

She said the ECM, deployed on the Federal Government’s 1Gov Cloud, will support electronic approvals, automated processes and seamless collaboration, in line with the directive to fully digitalise public service operations by December 31, 2025 and President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, noted that the system would strengthen public institutions and align Nigeria with global best practices, while Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Patience Oyekunle, described the launch as a key milestone in the Ministry’s reform journey.

With full implementation, the ECM System is expected to enhance accountability, preserve institutional memory and improve coordination, reinforcing the Ministry’s commitment to modern and efficient service delivery.
