The National Chairman of the APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has led high-level discussions in Morocco on the sidelines of the 2025 AFCON, aimed at charting a new direction for Nigerian football beyond the game itself.
According to a statement from his media office, Professor Yilwatda, who was part of the Federal Government delegation to AFCON, said football remains a powerful tool for national unity, youth empowerment and economic growth when properly structured. He noted that the APC is committed to policies that place young Nigerians at the centre of development.
While supporting the Super Eagles, whose strong AFCON outing rekindled national pride, Yilwatda engaged key stakeholders in strategic talks focused on adopting lessons from Morocco’s sports development model to build a sustainable football economy in Nigeria.
The discussions centred on using football to create jobs, strengthen infrastructure and drive long-term national development, with emphasis on collaboration between the federal and state governments to ensure nationwide impact.
The APC chairman said the goal is to reposition Nigerian football as a catalyst for unity and opportunity, turning passion for the game into lasting economic and social benefits.
