The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the FCT health sector with the commissioning of 12 new ambulances in Abuja.
Wike said the ambulances will strengthen emergency response and improve access to urgent healthcare across the territory. He noted that the administration is also working to rehabilitate and equip 14 health centres as part of wider health reforms.
Responding to criticism over focus on road construction, the minister explained that good roads are essential for effective emergency services, as ambulances cannot operate efficiently without proper infrastructure.
He also disclosed that plans are underway to recruit more health workers to boost service delivery in FCT hospitals.
The Mandate Secretary for Health, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, said the administration has cleared outstanding allowances owed to healthcare workers since 2021, including hazard allowances and residency training funds. She added that the ambulances reflect the government’s commitment to emergency preparedness and better health outcomes for FCT residents.
