REP SLAMS ALLEGED ATTACK ON PETER OBI, DEMANDS FULL PROBE

By:Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

A member of the House of Representatives, Peter Ifeanyi Uzokwe, has condemned the reported assassination attempt on former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Benin City, describing it as a grave threat to Nigeria’s democracy. Speaking in Abuja, Uzokwe warned that political violence, if unchecked, could destabilise the nation and erode public confidence in democratic participation.

He said an attack on a prominent political figure goes beyond the individual and amounts to an assault on democratic values, stressing that politics must remain a contest of ideas, not violence. Uzokwe urged the Monday Okpebholo-led government to guarantee the safety of all political actors in the state, regardless of party affiliation, and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
