The University of Jos has directed students to vacate hostels immediately following rising security concerns in parts of Jos, Plateau State.
The order, issued on Wednesday by Vice Chancellor Tanko Ishaya through the university’s management, comes amid growing tension and reports of unrest in areas close to the campus. The institution said the move is a precaution to protect students as the situation around the city becomes increasingly volatile.
Authorities confirmed that the Plateau State Government has stepped in to support the evacuation by providing transportation, with special approval for movement during curfew hours to ensure students leave safely.
Despite the evacuation, the university maintained that security has been strengthened across campus to safeguard facilities, while efforts continue to restore calm. Students and parents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with the arrangements.
The development follows renewed panic in Jos after fresh disturbances were reported shortly after the easing of a 48-hour curfew imposed in response to a deadly attack in Anguwan Rukuba. Residents were seen fleeing as tension spread, with security presence increasing across affected areas.
