The Ebonyi State Police Command has rescued a Methodist cleric, Reverend Sunday Ede, who was abducted in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state.
The Command also recovered his vehicle and a locally made pistol, while a suspect was arrested in a separate operation in Abakaliki.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, said the cleric was abducted after two armed men reportedly blocked his vehicle in front of the Methodist Church, Ndulo Amofia, forced him out and took him away on a motorcycle.
Following a distress call, police operatives launched a search and rescued the victim, who has since been reunited with his family. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
In a separate operation, police also disrupted a suspected cult meeting around a bakery in the Kpirikpiri area of Mile 50, Abakaliki.
One suspect, identified as Chisom Osim, was arrested. Police said a locally made Beretta pistol loaded with one round of 9mm ammunition and a mobile phone allegedly stolen from a robbery victim were recovered.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged residents to continue providing useful information to security agencies.
