SOKOTO RED CROSS TRAINS VOLUNTEERS IN EMERGENCY FIRST AID

The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Sokoto Branch, with support from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), has trained volunteers to provide emergency first aid during accidents and other critical situations.
The three-day Emergency First Aid Team training was organised as part of activities marking World First Aid Day 2026.
Speaking at the training, the branch Secretary, Shehu Ibrahim Dange, said the programme was designed to improve the knowledge, skills and readiness of volunteers to respond quickly to emergencies.
He said Sokoto continues to experience emergencies such as road crashes, domestic and workplace accidents, fire incidents, sudden illnesses, injuries and flooding, making trained first responders important at the community level.
Dange explained that the training equipped volunteers with practical skills in emergency assessment, first aid, casualty management, scene safety and referral of victims to appropriate health facilities.
He added that strengthening the capacity of volunteers across Sokoto metropolis and surrounding communities would help ensure that people receive immediate assistance while waiting for professional medical care.
The Red Cross said the initiative reflects its commitment to building a well-trained and responsive volunteer network capable of providing life-saving humanitarian assistance during emergencies.
