GANDUJE’S PROBE: COURT ORDERS KANO JUDGES TO RESIGN OR RISK LOSING SALARIES                                                                                                                                     04-07-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                A Federal High Court in Kano has ordered two judges, Justice Farouk Lawan Adamu and Justice Zuwaira Yusuf, to resign from their appointments as chairmen of judicial commissions of inquiry or risk losing their salaries and benefits.

The judges were appointed by Governor Abba Yusuf to probe former governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s administration.

Justice Simon Amobeda gave the order while delivering judgment in a case filed by Ganduje seeking to stop the probe.

The judge ruled that the judges’ acceptance of executive appointments as chairmen of commissions of inquiry amounts to a breach of the constitution and the doctrine of separation of powers.

The court ordered the judges to resign from their appointments within 48 hours or face the stoppage of their remuneration, allowances, and benefits from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation.

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has been directed to stop the judges’ salaries if they fail to comply with the order.
