NLC DEMANDS IMMEDIATE WITHDRAWAL OF ARMED SECURITY OPERATIVES FROM LABOUR HOUSE                                                                                                                             08-08-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                                   The Nigeria Labour Congress has demanded the immediate withdrawal of troop of armed security operatives from the Labour House in Abuja.

In a statement issued by the Head, Media and Public Relations, Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Benson Upah says heavily armed Security operatives invade the Abuja Labour House around 8.30pm on Wednesday( Yesterday) after the close of work.

Comrade Upah said the security operatives, comprises of the Nigeria Police Force, some wearing black tee-shirts presumably from the Department of State Services (DSS), and others on mufti commandeered him to the second floor where he was asked to produce the keys to the offices.

Head, Media and Public Relations Nigeria Labour Congress said when he told them that he had no such keys on him, they ransacked the bookshop on the 2nd floor carting away hundreds of books and other publications.

He said the invading troop claimed that they were looking for seditious materials used for the #EndBadGoveranance Protests.

Comrade Upah said the Nigeria Labour Congress condemns in its entirety the invasion of security operatives at the NLC head office.

The Congress said the armed security operatives showed no legal document permitting them to invade the premises of the Nigeria Labour Congress in such hours of the night.

“We also demand that all the books and materials carted away by the invading security operatives should be returned unfailingly to where they were taken from before the end of work (Thursday) tomorrow, 8th August 2024. The statement reads.

Comrade Upah said there was no court order for the invasion, ransacking and packing the publications.

In a Communique on Wednesday, the NLC had demanded the reversal of all ill-conceived policies causing economic hardship on Nigerians.
