By Sadiq Aminu                                                                    The National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu says smuggling of fuel out of the country must stop for Nigeria to reap the full benefits of the current reforms in the oil and gas sector.
Mallam Nuhu was speaking at a stakeholders engagement on ‘’ Operation Whirlwind’’ a special operation project by the Nigeria custom service aimed at checking smuggling of petroleum products from Nigeria to neighbouring countries.
Describing smuggling as not only a criminal act, but one of the country’s biggest challenges threatening its development, the national security adviser urged all stakeholders in the petroleum distribution chain to show patriotism through commitment and determination to end the menace.

Mallam Nuhu commended the efforts by the current management of the Nigeria customs service in tackling smuggling of petroleum products to other neighbouring countries.
The Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Bashiru Adeniyi explained that the operation Whirlwind’s stakeholders engagement underscored the commitment by the national security adviser to end smuggling of petroleum products across the nation’s borders.

Stakeholders at the occasion include representatives of the Chief of Defence Staff, the Nigeria Army, the Navy, Executives of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, the Nigeria Mainstream, Downstream and Price Regulatory Agency as well as Association of Tanker Drivers, with all expressing their commitment to eradication of smuggling of petroleum products to other countries.
