NLC DEMANDS IMPLEMENTATION OF N70,000 NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE, REVERSAL OF PMS HIKE                                                                                                          10-09-24

BY SADIQ AMINU                                                                The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the federal government to implement the N70,000 new National Minimum Wage.

A statement by the Deputy President of NLC, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju urges the government to Fastrack the implementation of National Minimum Wage to cushion the current economic hardship.

The Union also called for reversal of hike in the price of Petrol (PMS), Electricity tariffs and demand the release of all citizens in jails across the country for participating in the #EndBadGovernance protest around the country.

Comrade Adeyanju condemns the arrest and detention of Comrade Ajaero at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

”This attack on the NLC and its leadership is not just an attack on one individual; it is an assault on the fundamental rights of all Nigerian workers and citizens’’.The statement reads.

The Deputy President of the NLC says the Union will continue to defend the rights of workers, and take all necessary actions to protect these rights

‘We call on all Nigerians, our affiliates, and the international community to remain steadfast and vigilant as we continue this struggle’. Comrade Adeyanju stated.

NLC President Joe Ajaero was arrested on Monday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, while traveling to United Kingdom to represent Nigerian workers at the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Britain.

Comrade Ajaero was later released on Monday night, at about 11:00 pm, following ultimatum given by the National Administrative Council of the NLC to release him before 12 midnight .
