By Sadiq Aminu                                                                  The Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, has reassured Nigerians of the government’s dedication to revitalizing the education sector as a crucial step towards transforming the country.

Speaking at the 7th Education for Sustainable Development Conference organized by Bayero University’s Centre for Gender Studies, Dr. Ahmad emphasized the vital role education plays in national growth and development.

Dr. Ahmad reiterated that the federal government is committed to revitalizing tertiary institutions, not only as centers of learning but also as hubs of innovation and change.

“Education goes beyond acquiring knowledge; it is about shaping minds to create a sustainable future,”

The Minister also highlighted the importance of integrating sustainability into educational curricula, preparing students to tackle pressing challenges such as climate change, poverty, and inequality.

She assured that the government welcomes and prioritizes initiatives that align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, with youth being central to this administration.

Dr. Ahmad committed to supporting the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Program, ensuring that educational institutions become hubs of innovation and change.

This involves investing in infrastructure, providing quality teaching materials, and fostering an environment where students can thrive.

Other dignitaries, including the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, and the Chairman of the occasion, Professor Salisu Shehu, emphasized the need for honest and transparent leadership, probity, and accountability to drive Nigeria’s development.

The ESD Program, which has empowered over 270 students from 20 tertiary institutions, aims to equip students with knowledge and skills around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), advancing sustainable development prospects.
