NIGERIAN MERCHANT NAVY OFFICERS AND WATER TRANSPORT SENIOR STAFF ASSOCIATION EXPRESSES FEARS OF NOT TO BE SHORT CHANGED THIS YEAR 03-01-25
By Sadiq Aminu The Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association has expressed the hope that Nigerian Seafarers would be short changed this year by the massive influx of foreign Seafarers operating on the nation’s territorial waters.
The fear was allayed by the National President of the Association, Mr Joseph Yousuo in his new year message to the members of the Association in Lagos.
He urged the members to work towards ensuring unity for the improvement of the sector while expressing optimism that 2025 will be a much better year in the ports industry.
Mr Yousuo however charged members of their affiliate Group, the Trade Union Congress, to ensure effective utilisation of every opportunity which would be accorded them while praying for the spirit of peaceful cooperation and understanding to be able to build on the successes which they have achieved as an Association.
He also prayed for divine protection and guidance of Nigerian Seafarers in the course of navigating the global maritime domains ,in the new year.
Similarly, the Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria, CRFFN, Mr Kingsley Igwe, has outlined an ambitious vision to transform the Freight Forwarding sector in the new year.
In his new year address to the Staffers of the Council, Mr Igwe pledged to prioritise professional excellence and to collaborate with Sister Agencies towards sustainable growth in the industry.
He also highlighted plans to introduce policies which would enhance professional standards, compliance, integrity and efficiency across the Freight Logistics sector.
On staff welfare, the Registrar, who said he acknowledged the burden of the prevailing hardship in the country, however assured the Staff members of the Council, of renewed commitments to their wellbeing and promised them prompt payment of all salaries arrears and improvements of their workplace conditions for optimum performances in 2025.
