By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Kano State Government has launched the State Programme Steering Committee (SPSC) for the Education and Youth Empowerment Programme in North-West Nigeria (EYEPINN) ,a European Union-funded project aimed at improving education access and empowering young people.

At the inauguration in Kano, Commissioner for Education Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda described the initiative as “a promise for a purpose,” stressing its goal to reduce out-of-school children, promote inclusiveness, and equip youths with vital skills.

The committee will guide, monitor, and ensure effective implementation of EYEPINN activities across the state, with members drawn from key government bodies, development partners, and the EU Delegation.

Partners including UNICEF, PLAN International, UNESCO, and the World Bank’s DIME Unit presented plans to strengthen education systems and youth empowerment efforts across Kano and the North-West region.
