ANAMBRA 2026 BUDGET: N757BILLION FOR GROWTH AND INFRASTRUCTURE

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

Anambra State Government has presented a N757 billion budget for 2026, up from N607 billion in 2025. Governor Chukwuma Soludo described it as a “Budget of Recovery, Consolidation, and Acceleration”, prioritizing human capital, economic growth, infrastructure, and citizen well-being.

The budget includes N595 billion for capital projects and N162 billion for recurrent expenditure, marking significant increases across all key sectors, including education, health, infrastructure, and social services. Despite an estimated deficit of N225.7 billion, the governor noted that his administration has not borrowed to fund any budget shortfall since taking office.

Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze praised the budget, highlighting the state’s progress in education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, power, water, youth initiatives, and security. The bill has passed first reading and awaits legislative scrutiny.
