TINUBU SEEKS SENATE APPROVAL FOR NEW PETROLEUM REGULATORS’ BOSSES

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has asked the Senate to approve the appointment of new chief executives for Nigeria’s upstream and midstream/downstream petroleum regulators following recent resignations at the agencies.

The request comes after the exit of Farouk Ahmed from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and Gbenga Komolafe from the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, both appointed in 2021 under the Petroleum Industry Act.

In a letter to the Senate, the president nominated Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan to lead the upstream commission and Engineer Saidu Aliyu Mohammed as head of the midstream and downstream authority, urging lawmakers to fast-track their confirmation.

The nominees are experienced oil and gas professionals, with Tinubu expressing confidence that their leadership will strengthen regulation and support reforms in the energy sector.
