TINUBU, ALAUSA BACK TETFUND PLAN FOR MEDICAL SIMULATION CENTRES

The Federal Government is set to establish world-class medical simulation centres across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to strengthen practical training for healthcare students.
The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this while receiving the report of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Medical Simulation Committee.
Alausa said the centres would support the training of medical, dental, nursing, pharmacy and other allied health students as enrolment in healthcare programmes continues to rise.
He said nursing enrolment had increased from about 38,000 three years ago to more than 120,000, while annual medical school admissions had risen from about 5,000 to nearly 12,000.
The minister said the government aims to increase annual medical school admissions to about 20,000 within the next three years.
He added that the initiative was part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to improve the quality of education and strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare workforce.
