NIGER GOVERNMENT PLANS TO PLANT 19 MILLION TREES TO CHECK CIMATE CHANGE AND DEFORESTATION 05-10-23
By Sadiq Aminu Arrangements have been concluded by the Niger state government to plant nineteen million trees in the state within the next two years.
This is part of efforts by the state government at addressing problems of climate change and deforestation.
Commissioner of Environment Alh Yakubu Kolo announced this while addressing Newsmen on the outcome of their weekly Executive Council meeting held in Minna the Niger state capital
Represented by Permanent Secretary in the ministry Sirajo Saed the Commissioner explained that they have already earmarked sixteen thousand hectares of land for the planting of nineteen million trees in line with objective of keeping their green economy hope agenda a reality.
Alh Yakubu Kolo also spoke of plans by the Niger state government to organise a Green Economy Summit this month towards making the ten percent of total land in Niger state more economically viable and result oriented.
He said while Niger state government is committed to this project, he however explained that the Green Economy Summit will be supported by the World Bank to succeed.
Also speaking state Commissioner For Lands And Survey Barrister Maurice Magaji said in keeping to this ideal henceforth in every plọt of land given to any person he or she must plant at least three trees towards fastracking the process of achieving Niger state motive.
He also said plans are at an advance stage by the Niger state government to commence monthly sanitation exercise this month while the amount of money paid to those category of workers will be increased inview of the hazard nature of such work.
Commissioner For Information and Strategy Hajiya Binta Mamman added that a six hectare land has been handed to the contactor handling the construction of roads project at Rafin Yashi camp in rediness for the project while similar land for same purpose will allocated in Bida Suleja and Kontagora Local Government Areas.
