ICMPD PARTNERS WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TOWARDS MAINSTREAMING GENDER 18-10-23
By Sadiq Aminu The International Centre for Migration Policy Development, ICMPD is to partner with the Federal Government towards mainstreaming gender inclusiveness and border control for social economic development of the country.
The Head ICMPD Region in West Africa, Dr. Mojisola Sodeinde made this known in Abuja at a two-day training and validation of policy documents, under it’s frame work project, known as Modernizing Nigeria Immigration Service, MoNIS,
According to Dr. Sodeinde the MoNIS project which is funded by the Danish government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, implemented by the Center in support of the Nigerian immigration service was geared towards curbing irregular migration, human trafficking, and cross border crimes.
Dr. Sodeinde who used the occasion to applaud relevant stakeholders for their unflinching support towards the success of MoNIS project in Nigeria since inception describing it as a project for better migration governance process.
In her good will message, The Acting Comptroller General Nigerian Immigration service Caroline Wuraola-Adepoju explained that Gender mainstreaming was an essential aspect of development that recognizes the different needs and priorities of men and women in the society.
While reiterating the commitment of the service for the welfare of it’s personnel, the NIS Boss aplauded the minister of interior for clearing the two years backlog of passport application and pointed out that the service under her watch, would continue to work with stakeholders to meet up with the yearning and expectations of Nigerians.
Also, Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo represented by the secretary and Chief Executive officer of Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Service Board, CDCFIS Mr. Jafaru Ahmad disclosed that promotion of officers and men under the ministry will henceforth be largely predicated on excellent performance before examinations.
According to the Minister of interior, the policy document which will focus on career progression and gender inclusivity which is crucial to the motivation of employees and equal treatment opportunities for everyone irrespective of their gender.
