ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT DEPLOYS SECURITY OPERATIVES TO UTURU FOLLOWING AN ALLEGED CULT CLASH                                                        12-03-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                       The Abia State Government says it has deployed security operatives to its University in Uturu following an alleged clash of two rival student groups that claimed the life of a student.

Briefing newsmen on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu, said the move was to forestall further breakdown of law and order in the institution.

Prince Kanu urged the students to refrain from violence and other actions that would negatively affect their lives and studies.

The Commissioner noted that some remedial actions had been taken to return normalcy to the institution, adding that investigations had equally been instituted.

Contributing, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, said the government was yet to establish the details of what transpired but gave an assurance that once investigations were concluded, the general public would be updated.

Meanwhile, Abia State Government says it has taken steps towards strengthening its monitoring and evaluation unit for effective supervision of all projects executed by the present administration.

According to the Commissioner for Information, the strengthening of the unit will lead to seamless execution of projects and ensure that government has value for every money spent in line with specifications.

He noted that the 27 roads across the state under construction embarked by the administration were nearing completion , stressing that the residents would continue to witness massive road infrastructure development.

On the forthcoming free medical mission fixed for next month, Prince Kanu explained that over 2,500 patients had so far registered, adding that over 5,000 patients were expected to benefit from the medical mission.
