ECOWAS PARLIAMENT PUSHES FOR THE RETURN OF BREAKAWAY MEMBER STATES- SENATE DEPUTY CHIEF WHIP                                                            06-04-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                     A member of the 6th ECOWAS Parliament, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi says President Bola Tinubu’s push for reunification of breakaway ECOWAS member states with the rest of the community will pave the way for improved economic growth of the subregion.

The Lawmaker stated this at Mbeke Ishieke in Ebonyi Local government area during the disbursement of tuition to indigent students selected from Nigerian Universities.

Senator Nwebonyi who is the Senate Deputy Chief Whip said though the sanctions imposed on the breakaway countries of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso were justified, ECOWAS Parliament would work with other regional Institutions to bring them back to strengthen socio-economic cooperation.

Senator Nwebonyi announced that about two hundred indigent undergraduates from Ebonyi North District including some medical students who were on the verge of dropping out of Clinical Stage at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo benefitted from the tuition disbursement worth over forty million Naira.

According to Senator Nwebonyi, the gesture was to complement the efforts of the government towards manpower development.
