ARMY CAUTIONS TROOPS ON ARMS SALES, DRUG ABUSE, UPHOLDS HUMAN RIGHTS

By: Safiya Abdulrahim Dabban

The Nigerian Army has cautioned its troops against the illegal sale of arms and ammunition as well as the abuse of drugs, warning that such actions threaten national security and military professionalism. The warning was conveyed by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, during a human rights and professional conduct session for troops in Gusau.

The Army stressed that while soldiers must remain firm in the fight against terrorism and banditry, all operations must be carried out within the law and with respect for human rights. It noted that discipline and ethical conduct are key to maintaining public trust and operational effectiveness.

Troops were reminded that the Army maintains zero tolerance for misconduct and will take decisive action against offenders, urging personnel to uphold responsibility, integrity and professionalism at all times.
