MBA: YAKUBU MAIKYAU STIMULATE DELIBERATIONS ON THE NATION’S…..

The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, has enjoined legal practitioners to conduct themselves ethically and professionally to dispense justice without fear or favour and to restore the confidence of the judiciary.

The President of the Association, Chief Yakubu Maikyau stated this at the 3rd General Sam Momah Annual Lecture Series in Abuja.

The Sam Momah Foundation was established in 2018 and it is aimed at reviving the poor reading culture among citizens, especially students, by equipping the country’s educational institutions and libraries with state-of the-art facilities.

Its 3rd Annual Lecture Series, which has the theme, the Temple of Justice in Nigeria, scarred or sacred, provided a platform to stimulate deliberations on the nation’s Judiciary.

Chief Yakubu Maikyau, who was also the Chairman of the event, maintained that the existence of the nation was connected to the judiciary‘s ability to dispense justice and urged members of the bar and the bench to uphold the integrity of the legal profession.

The Keynote Speaker and former President of the Civil Liberties Organisation, Mrs Ayo Obe identified accountability, open government, accessible and impartial justice as the four rules of law and advised lawyers to imbibe these principles in the dispensation of justice.

A Social Analyst and Executive Director of the foundation, Dr. Tobe Momah said the theme was apt especially at this period the country await the outcome of the Election Petitions Tribunal.

Dr. Momah therefore called on federal government to channel resources accrued from the fuel subsidy removal to meaningful venture for the development of the country.

The event featured presentation and review of a book titled, A General and A Gentleman… the last 20 years.
