NLC DECLARES 2 DAYS WARNING STRIKE                                                                         01/09/2023.

The Nigeria Labour Congress is to embark on a total and indefinite shutdown of the nation within 14 working days or 21 days from today until steps are taken by the Government to address the excruciating mass suffering and impoverishment being experienced around the country.

NLC and all its affiliates and the state councils are also to commence a 2-day nationwide warning strike from Tuesday 5th & Wednesday 6th of this month to demonstrate its readiness for the indefinite strike later in the month and to also demand that the State vacates the illegally occupied National Headquarters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.

NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero gave this indication while presenting a communique at the end of the Congress National Executive Council Meeting in Abuja.

Comrade Ajaero also hinted that the congress is to embark on a mass protest and rally in Imo and Abia States within this month of September, 2023 in preparation for a major shutdown of the states to compel the state government to stop the abuse and violation of the rights and privileges of workers and trade unions in the state.

According to NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, within this month too, the organised labour will begin the shutdown of the operations of Airpeace Airline and other companies in the aviation sector that are involved in serial violation of the rights of workers in the sector to freedom of Association and to collectively bargain and Organise.

Comrade Ajaero equally demanded that the new Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike should desist from threatening poor masses in the FCT with demolition of their properties built from their years of toil but should focus more on making houses available to the people.

He pointed out that Mr Wike was not appointed a Minister of Demolition but to provid basic socio-economic services for residents and warned that he should be
prepared to meet Nigerian workers and citizens on the streets if he carries out what he described as his insensitive utterances.

NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero maintained that the body language of Mr President and many governors have not shown sensitivity and commitment to the suffering of Nigerian workers and the masses following the subsidy removal policy and other anti-labour stands manifested so far and stressed that the leadership of the organised labour will not fold its hands but will do all within legal means to compel government to address these issues affecting workers.
