NIGER GOVERNMENT INVESTS OVER N18 BILLION NAIRA ON AEDC IN 8 YEARS                                                                                                        15-09-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                     Niger state Government says it has invested over eighteen billion naira to the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company AEDC within the last eight years.

Head Of Service Alh Abubakar Salisu announced this while addressing Newsmen on the outcome of state Executive Council meeting in Minna.

Alh Abubakar Salisu explained that the money was spent on the purchase of transformers across twenty five Local Government Areas and expansion of AEDC network among others yet government facilities are not secured from constant disconnection by the AEDC  .

According to him Niger state government has within the period under review expended over three billion naira on southern Lapai towards providing soccur to the affected communities.

He said initially Niger state government inherrited over four billion naira legacy debt but after setting up of a committee to verify the AEDC claims Niger state government arrived at one point three billion naira.

Alh Abubakar Salisu explained that last administration has paid five hundred million naira to AEDC while the present administration has settled the remaining eight hundred thousand naira balance and is therefore not owing the AEDC.

He however wondered why the AEDC charged Chanchaga water works fifty million naira monthly and also presented a bill of seventeen million naira Kwasau primary school with only one ceiling fan each at the principal and headmasters office.

Alh Abubakar Salisu also cited another example with a Speaker residence that was built during former Governor Auwal Ibrahim which was abandoned for almost forty years that got an AEDC bill of over eight million naira.

Niger state Head of Service therefore said at the moment the state government is trying to take off most of energy demanding outfits of government off AEDC for administrative convenience.
