KBSG SUSPENDS MINNING ACTIVITIES IN THE STATE DUE TO SECURITY CHALLENGES 22-09-23
By Sadiq Aminu The Kebbi State Government, has suspended all mining activities in the state as a result of security challenges.
In a Press Conference by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, said banning of all mining activities in the state was as a result of security situation at the sites that needs to protect mining workers, host communities and as well for revenue generation and corporate social responsibility of those in the industry.
He said, government decision to suspend minning in the state was a precautionary measure aimed at enduring the safety of mining workers and people of the host communities.
According to him, the state government was not unmindful of the fact that mining is under Exclusive Legislative List and the decision to suspend mining in the state was made after a thorough assessment of the current security situation in the mining sites at the southern zone of the state.
Bala Tafida pointed out that, the security situation at the mining sites has raised serious concern about safety of those in the industries couple with lack of veritable corporate social responsibility in the midst of lack of revenue generation.
He said, the state government believes that it is important to prioritize protection of security of its citizens and as well safeguard against converting the mining fields to breeding criminals by unauthorized foreigners and non-indigenes with questionable characters and attendance consequences of increase in banditry.
Tafida stated that, government has decided to address the concerns through comprehensive evaluation and enforcement of strict regulations that seeks to promote responsible mining, safeguard the environment, enhance revenue generation as well as proactive security measure.
