6 DEAD BODIES OF VICTIMS OF NIGER BOAT MISHAP RECOVERED- SAYS DG NSEMA                                                                                                                 03-10-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                        The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA),has said that so far, 6 dead bodies of victims of boat mishap that occured on Monday between Agwara local council of Niger State to Yauri in Kebbi state has been recovered.

The acting Director General overseeing the agency, Salihu Garba who made the disclosure in Minna, explained that the NSEMA received a report of boat mishap that occured between 11am and 12pm on Monday 2nd October,2023,at Agwara, adding that the boat took off from Kasabu village of Agwara and was heading to Yauri in Kebbi state.

The NSEMA boss noted that one of the survivor of the incident who was on board revealed that the boat was carrying (22) passengers as at the time of the incident.

The Director General stated that the cause of the mishap was attributed to water hyacinth couple with strong waves.

He assured that search and rescue operations are still ongoing by the local divers and boat owners under the strict supervision of Niger State Emergency Management Agency Agwara desk officers.

According to him”, it normally takes 24 hours for any drowned person to float up, noting that, as of yesterday Tuesday in the evening at about 3pm,the bodies of the (6) victims recovered includes:

BILYAMINU KONTAGORA,
DAUDA ALHASSAN KASABU,JOSHUA
AUTA,all from Niger State,while,MURNA EZEKIEL,ILLIYA KPCHRA BUSURU and AMOS SAMUEL were from Kebbi.
