NATIONWIDE INDUSTRIAL ACTION DECLARED BY NLC /TUC MEETS PARTIAL COMPLIANCE IN KWARA STATE                                                                       14-11-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                   The nationwide industrial action declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC and Trade Union Congress, TUC, has met with partial compliance in Kwara State.

Public schools in the State capital, Ilorin were under lock as pupils and students were sent back home.

Courts visited were shut, disrupting scheduled proceedings while people with litigations were seen loitering.

However, some private schools visited were seen going about their usual activities. Commercial banks, Electricity providers and transporters also shunned the strike as transactions were going unhindered.

The roads are also busy as residents go about their daily businesses.

Correspondent Sadiq Aminu  reports that at the State Ministries and Agencies, workers were sighted within the premises.

A civil servant, Mr Abdulmalik Adebayo who called on labour leaders to call off the strike, said the action was coming at a wrong time.                                              “With the inflation in the country, high cost of food, transportation and and living generally, things are difficult already. Now adding strike to it, if there is no fuel in Nigeria now it will worse. So I don’t think that this is the right time”, he said.

In a reaction, the TUC State Chairman, Comrade Joseph Tunde explained that the strike is not just a reaction to the mishandling of the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, but also to make Government honour the agreement reached with Labour on wage award, as some State Governments are yet to pay their workers.
