NLC, TUC INDEFINATE STRIK RECORDS LOW COMPLIANCE IN ZAMFARA AS IT ENTERS SECOND DAY 15-11-23
By Sadiq Aminu In Zamfara State, the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), and its Trade Union counterpart have joined the nationwide indefinite strike with low compliance.
Addressing journalists in Gusau, the two labour union leaders Sani Halliru and Saidu Mudi said their decision to join the indefinite strike is in compliance with the directive of the national leadership to press home their demands.
The NLC and its affiliates said the strike was embarked upon, following hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidies, and the assault on the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, in Imo State, his home town.
When Africa 247 visited federal and state secretariats in Gusau the state capital, he observed that there was low compliance as some staff ware seen coming in and out of the facility.
The state’s NLC and TUC Chairmen, Comrades Sani Halilu and Comrade Saidu Mudi, after addressing journalists, moved to the JB Yakubu State Secretariat and other MDA’s to ensure compliance with the directive.
In an interview, the former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA Zamfara State, Barrister Bello Galadi said he do not see any relationship between the assault on the NLC President and the nation wide strike action.
Barrister Galadi therefore called on the inspector general of Police to arrest, investigate and prosecute the NLC President for actions likely to cause breach of the public peace and unnecessary hardship to over 200 million people.
Most of the civil servants in the state called on the unions to fight for the right of their members not single individual especially in Zamfara State were civil servants are not receiving any minimum wage no eighteen thousand neither thirty thousand naira.
