DAMS, RIVER BASIN AUTHORITIES CAN BOOST FOOD PRODUCTION- GORONYO 17-11-23
By Sadiq Aminu The Minister of State for the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, says effective utilization of the numerous dams constructed by the Federal Government, in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation and its twelve River Basin Development Authorities, has the potential to guarantee national food security.
Goronyo stated this during a courtesy visit by the entire Sokoto State Legislators at the minister’s office in Abuja.
Emphasizing the significance of the dams managed by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, most notably designed to supply water for the Songhai Model Integrated Farms and Irrigation projects of the River Basin Development Authorities nationwide, Goronyo underscored their role in accelerating food production in alignment with the Food Security Agenda of the current Administration.
The Minister urged the Sokoto State House of Assembly members to think innovatively, highlighting their responsibility to fully support the Federal Executive Council in realizing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 8-point mandate.
He reiterated the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling its mandate, disclosing that the two supervising minister of Water Resources and Sanitation had commenced familiarization tours of the Twelve River Basin Development Authorities across the country to assess their status and strategically reposition them for upcoming challenges.
Passionately appealing to the State Legislators, Goronyo urged them to collaborate and partner in delivering democratic dividends not only to Sokoto State but to all Nigerians, stating that their collective responsibility in addressing issues such as the persistent security situation, high poverty levels, youth unemployment, out-of-school children (education), and other challenges affecting Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.
Expressing gratitude for the visit, Goronyo assured both the legislators and Sokoto State of adequate representation in the Federal Executive Council.
In response, the Speaker of Sokoto House of Assembly, Tukur Bala Bodinga, spoke on behalf of the legislators, describing the visit as a demonstration of solidarity aimed at congratulating the Honorable Minister of State on his well-deserved appointment to the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation.
Tukur acknowledged the formidable task ahead and pledged the legislators’ support to assist in achieving the mandate bestowed by the President.
