NCDC ASSURES BAUCHI STATE GOVERNMENT OF ITS SUPPORT TO COMBAT LASSA FEVER, DIPHTHERIA AND OTHERS                                                                                                      22-12-23

By Sadiq Aminu                                                    The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) assures Bauchi State government of its readiness to offer any kind of support to combat Lassa fever, Diphtheria and other emerging diseases.

The Director General of NCDC, Dr Ifedayo Adetifa gave the assurance when he led a delegation from the centre on an advocacy visit to the state.

He said the aim was to offer moral support to the state for the good work it was doing in responding to public health threats facing it.

Dr Adetifa noted that Bauchi like some other states in the country has been battling Diphtheria and now Lassa fever which occur seasonally.

According to him, as part of its mandate, the NCDC lead efforts to prevent, detect and respond to public health threats, especially the ones caused by communicable diseases.

Speaking, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Adamu Sambo represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry Ali Babayo described the visit as apt in view of the numerous public health issues the state was facing.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the State’s Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed said the state needs technical, equipment and consumables support for it to prepare towards confronting any health challenge.
