BAUCHI GOVERNMENT DISTRIBUTES 300 CARD STOVES TO RESIDENTS 05-01-24
By Sadiq Aminu Bauchi State government has distributed three hundred Card Stoves to residents towards arresting land degradation, deforestation and climate change.
Speaking during the free distribution exercise, the State Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Alhaji Ahmed Kawule, said it was also meant to discourage felling of trees across the state.
Ahmed Kawule urged the beneficiaries to put the items into good and warned them not to sell it out for temporary gain.
Speaking, the District Head and Chiroma of Bauchi, Alhaji Nuru Adamu Jumba said the initiative was a welcome development, emphasising that it would help in tackling climate change threats.
In a remark, the Director General of the World Bank assisted, Agro-Climatic Resilience and Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project, Dr Kabir Ibrahim said studies have shown that, one Card Stove if judiciously utilized for seven years, would save about eight fully grown trees.
According to him, preparations are ongoing for the construction of about three thousand and five hundred immobile cooking stoves in people houses across the state.
The Field Officer National Agency for the Great Green Wall GGW, Hadiza Muhammad said the agency was in support of the state government’s move to prevent desertification, land degradation and other activities that poses threat to the environment.
One of the beneficiaries and Person With Disability, Asma’u Yahaya assured that the items would be judiciously used and monitored in the hands of all PWD beneficiaries to ensure its utilisation.
She commended the state government for identifying PWDs to benefit from the initiative.
