KANO STATE FARMERS DECRY OVER RODENTS DESTROYING THEIR CROPS                                                          12-02-24

By Sadiq Aminu                                                       Farmers in Kura, Garun Malam and Bunkure local government areas Kano, have appealed to the government to come to their aid, to end the menace of rodents destroying their crops.

The farmers explained that, the rodents have destroyed their crops, ranging from legumes and vegetables which has greatly affected their livelihood.

They maintained that, they are currently facing challenges,as almost all the farms cultivating food crops across the three local government areas of Bunkure, Garun Malam and Kura are facing the crisis.

A farmer in Bunkure Hajiya Ramatu Kura, who spoke to Radio Nigeria pointed out that, all their efforts of getting rid of the rodents proved abortive.

She stressed that, the farmers are faced with hardship, as they have spent huge amount of money to purchase seeds, fertilizer and other farm inputs, but at the end the animals have rendered them helpless.

The farmer highlighted that, the attack is gradually spreading to more farms, in other areas across the three local government areas.

She appealed to government and relevant stakeholders, to avert food crisis in the state through interventions, aimed at uplifting agriculture to global standard.

Africa 247 correspondent reports that, rodents belong to the mammal group, and sometimes causes significant losses to agricultural products in many regions of the world.
